    Problem-solving and planning are one of the fundamentals application ares of artificial inteligence (AI). However, the weak methods, employing little domain knowledge, originally used in AI for problem-solving and planning, proved inadequate for complexreal-world problems. The paper deals with some problems of nondeductive problem-solving approaches. Backward chaining, problem reduction, difference reduction, more efficient tactics for problem-solving, and production system are analyzed and evaluated
