Comparison of different approaches to the control of cyclic processes

  • Original language description

Cyclic process is a process in which the activities are repeatedly carried out in subsequent regular time intervals in the same order. There are several approaches to solving of cyclic processes. In the first one the start and finish time of all activities must be in the same interval. In the second approach some given activities are allowed to start in one interval and finish in the next interval. In the last case there are no restrictions for time of finish of the activity in the subsequent interval. One example of a cyclic process is the road intersection signal plan. An optimal intersection signal plan minimizes the total waiting time of all vehicles in the intersection. Vehicles come to intersection in flows. The start time and end time of green signal is the activity mentioned above. This time can be affected by existence of "red point". It is the moment when all flows in the intersection have red signal.
