    The concept of user identification by biometric methods is described. The paper summarizes techniques that are routinely used in biometric identification, gives the reader basic idea of the background of biometrics and explains the meaning of basic terms used in this area. The objective is to present an overview of existing methods for the recognition of people, which will be used in future research, particularly with focus on the recognition of individuals in the automotive industry.
