The New Environmental Legislation in Sphere of Waste Management in the Czech Republic

On January 1, 2002, the new Law on Waste, No. 185/2001 Coll., came into legal force. This Law introduces a new definition of waste and some other basic concepts. The passing of the new Law on Waste, No. 185/2001 Coll., and the related regulations for implementation is a further step in improving waste management. The passing of this new legislation has brought the Czech legislation on waste management closer to the OECD recommendations and EU directives - the Czech Republic is a country preparing for accession to the European Union. Awarding of authorization in the sphere of waste management for selected kinds of hazardous waste and authorization of persons to assess the hazardous properties of waste is retained.
