BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL PLA AND ITS APPLICATION IN PRACTICE

  • Original language description

The paper deals with the issue of separating biodegradable PLA (polylactic acid) bottles from conventionally used packaging materials such as PET (polyethylene terephthalate). The separation of these materials is especially important because each of theplastics has a different cycle at the end of its secondary use. Recycling PET bottles the quality of the granulate may be degraded due to the occurrence of PLA material, while the occurrence of PET is undesirable during composting the biodegradable plastics PLA as it cannot be biologically decomposed. An option to separate the materials is the use of flotation process. The major focus of research was to achieve maximum separation efficiency of PET from PLA, which is given by the correct implementation of the optimization process: an appropriate choice of flotation reagents and frothers, and adjustment of the flotation parameters which influence the separation of the above mentioned materials.
