Adaptation of Pseudomonas strain in the presence of zinc in contaminated soils

  • Original language description

The paper examines and compares physiological properties for zinc tolerance in bacterial species from a single taxonomic genus of Pseudomonas. It compares type bacterial strains (P. aeruginosa CCM 1961, P. chlororaphis CCM 4973, P. fluorescens CCM 2115, P. fulva CCM 7509, P. monteilii CCM 4844 and P. putida CCM 7156) originating from various environments without any documented metal content and 12 newly isolated strains originating from anthropogenic sediments with high heavy metal contents and established zinc occurrence. The experimental results corroborate high metal tolerance in the bacterial strains originating from localities rich in heavy metals, which is grounded in the phenotypic properties of the individual species; among the decisive factors for tolerance there is high bacteria's adaptation capacity reflected by the extensive species diversity of the Pseudomonas bacterial genus.
