THE TREATMENT OF SALTY MINE WATER IN CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS

  • Original language description

The salty mine water is monitored in Karviná - Lazy. This area is located to the northeast of the Czech Republic. This water is characterized especially by a high proportion of dissolved inorganic salts, particularly chlorides. Mine water is collected in a sedimentation tank, which is partially overgrown with reeds (Phragmites australis). We created four small constructed wetlands in laboratory conditions. These small wetlands are planted with reeds and watered with mine water from our location. We monitor the concentration of chlorides and sulphates in the mine water regularly. We use the determination by a spectrophotometer for these analyzes. Evaluation of plant responses to stress in the form of increased salinity is the main aim of our work.
