Isolation of new bacterial strains: possible negative impact on human health

  • Original language description

Currently, the pathogenicity of bacteria is a serious problem, not only in connection with the increasing occurrences of immunodeficiency in human population, but mainly as a consequence of unknown virulence of newly isolated strains, the pathogenicity of which may be very high. A case study of bacterial microflora from naturally mummified human remains demonstrates occurrences of extremely pathogenic and obligatory pathogenic isolates of bacteria, namely belonging to the genera of Acinetobacter, Bacillus, Kocuria, Psychrobacter, Virgibacillus, etc. The results of the identification studies show that during the processes of isolation, cultivation and taxonomisation of new bacterial strains it is highly important to closely adhere to work safety principles related to handling hazardous biological material to protect human health.
