TESTING OF DIGESTATE LIQUOR AND DIGESTATE FIBRE ON INVERTEBRATES (ESENIA ANDREI)
Original language description
In Europe a common source of generated energy from renewable sources is energy produced in biogas plants (only in the Czech Republic there are 550 biogas plants). The most serious problem of this production is enormous amounts of the waste product, i.e. digestate. The most widely used disposal method for this waste product is its incorporation in the soil. In our research we tested the effect of separated phases of digestate (digestate liquor and digestate fibre). The tests were inspired by OECD 222 Standard, but the tests were performed under field conditions. The digestate fibre and digestate liquor were found to contain very low levels of hazardous elements, and for that reason the major limiting factors for earthworms are the pH value, temperature and moisture of the digestate liquor and digestate fibre. Next, the main limiting factor is a high pH value ranging from 6 to 8.5 in the first testing dose. In digestate liquor (and also in digestate fibre) there were also high concentrations of nitrogen which released into the air immediately after application. Based on the correlations, the strongest dependence demonstrated in case of digestate fibre and pH.
