Biodegradation of industrial dyes using selected microbial consortium
Original language description
In view of increasing demand for more efficient use of water resources, technological processes are innovated in textile industry and result in lower environmental impact. One possible option is to clean textile waste water containing industrial dye residues by microbial consortia and biodegradation process. This method of removing potentially toxic substances by microbial biomass is appropriate because other chemicals are not brought into the environment and residual biomass can be easily removed when the biodegradation process is done. The purpose of this article is to present the possibility of using selected microbial consortia to degrade simulated samples of industrial dyes. In experimental work, the metabolic activities of selected microorganisms, which were isolated from environment with high organic and inorganic pollution, were monitored. Based on the results of biodegradation a consortium of microorganisms was created. The ability to degrade industrial dyes was verified by measuring the absorption spectrum after 10 days of microbial consortia treatment.
