The depleted material at grain boundaries area with a reduced Cr-Mo,N content and/or pitting resistance equivalent has also a lower critical pitting temperature and decreased values of the depassivation or repassivation potential in comparison with a non-depleted material within a large part of grain. Within the framework of method are used potentiokinetic anodic waves (PAW), which are parts of polarization curves. The wave shift to the lower value of depassivation or repassivation potential for a givenmaterial is proportional to a depth of its depletion. According to an initial potential value of the wave, it is possible to find the minimal content of Cr-Mo,N for the depleted grain boundaries and according to the wave slope, it is possible to find the distribution of the concentration of the above elements at the grain boundaries. By the PAW is also possible to distinguish between continuous depletion along grain boundaries and local depletion around isolated phases.
