Evaluation of relations between structural characteristics of C-Mn steel and microalloyed steel VStE500 used in oil industry and their resistance against hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) were studied in this paper. The investigated steels had different microstructures and different characteristics of non-metallic inclusions. Tensile tests performed on previously electrolytically charged specimens were used in this work. The specimens were taken in three decisive directions regarding to the plate rolling,i.e. in longitudinal and transversal directions as well as in through-thickness direction. It was found out that the level of hydrogen embrittlement (HE) displays expressive anisotropy and HE is increasing from longitudinal direction through transversaldirection. Maximum of HE was observed in through-thickness direction.
