The paper is devoted to the evaluation of mechanical properties attained in two ceramics types (Al2O3, Si3N4). The basic ceramographic characteristics and the level of indentation fatigue are determined. The microstructure analysis of crack initiations by static and repeated loading, including the finding of relation between the propagation of median/radial cracks and the initiation of lateral cracks are presented. The conditions of the chipping formation representing a limiting parameter of ceramics response during the repeated loading are defined. Further, the parameters influencing the durability of ceramic materials and their higher technical properties are summarised.
