Rise velocities of bubbles in liquids
Original language description
The paper reports recent progress in our project of investigation of bubbles levitating in downward diverging liquid flow. Here, rising bubbles can be observed under constant flow conditions for a long time period. It is quite important, as other methodsallow single bubbles to be observed for few seconds only. The rising velocity of a levitating bubble can be calculated from its position in the channel of given geometry at a known liquid flow rate. Our interest was focussed namely to the medium size spheroid bubbles, which are important for number of gas liquid processes. Extended results of rising velocities for air water system (Reynolds number Re = 500 to 3000, Eötvös number Eo = 1 to12) were presented last year. Now, the effect of liquid viscositywas investigated for similar Eo with a glycerol solution in transition region, Re = 20 to 150. Measured velocities are in general accordance with the published data for bubbles with contamined surfaces. However, qualitative changes of bub
