Expert system is a computer-based system, which acts in a manner similar to a human expert. The paper presents expert systems as a progressive logistical technology, whose can crucially contribute to efficiency of production with respect to demanding promptness, flexibility, quality, and delivery finality. Potential benefits from using of expert systems lead members of department of economics and management in metallurgy to acquire the research project "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Logistics of Metallurgical Enterprises of the North-Moravian and Silesian Region". In frame of the first phase of solution the following activities were identified and carried out: mapping of expert systems using in logistics of enterprise, decision about character of creation of expert systems, acquirement of necessary software and know-how, creation of experimental application and methodology for building of expert systems, building of first practical application.
