ACICULAR FERRITE AND GRANULAR BAINITE COMPARISON
Original language description
Two steels in as rolled conditions with almost the same chemical composition are analyzed. The attention is at first devoted to acicular ferrite, its microstructural parameters, substructure, fractographical characteristics and hydrogen response. Furtheracicular ferrite properties are compared with similar ones detected in the M/A (martensite/austenite) constituent being part of the granular bainite microstructure. Acicular ferrite as well as the M/A constituent are responsible for the final steel properties. Both products of austenite decomposition are practically formed at the same temperature interval by displacive mechanism. Acicular ferrite represents woven, chaotic matrix showing very good strength properties, as well as toughness and favourablehydrogen response. Matrix with M/A constituent shows high strength, however, toughness level is dependent on the M/A constituent volume fraction.
