Original language description
Alloys based on TiAl are very perspective material in automotive and aeronautical industry due to their outstanding properties such as high specific strength, low density, high elastic modulus and creep resistivity. Production of TiAl alloys is difficult, because titanium and aluminium are considerable reactive materials. Therefore these alloys are prepared in inert atmosphere. These TiAl alloys with nominal compositions of Ti-44Al (atomic ratio) and various yttrium additions 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 at. %) were produced using the plasma melting with argon atmosphere. These samples were prepared for metalographic observation and for microhardness measurement.
