TiNb based shape memory alloys prepared using EBFZ melting
Original language description
The study of TiNb-based alloys was performed. The alloys were prepared with two compositions: Ti22Nb and Ti25Nb (at.%). Methods of preparation consisted in plasma melting, swaging into the bars with diameter of 10 mm and remelting using vacuum electron beam floating zone melting. Specimens of both alloys were heat treated at 1100°C for 12 hours in flowing argon gas and water quenched. Metallographic observation, microhardness measurement and phase microanalysis of prepared alloys were performed in as-melted and heat treated conditions. It was found that the microstructure of both compositions is formed of celullar structure in as-melted condition and of lamellar two phase structure in heat treated specimens. The effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and microhardness was found.
