Microstructure of Ni-22Al-1Zr and Ni-22Al-2Zr alloys after directional solidification
Original language description
Ni-22Al-1Zr and Ni-22Al-2Zr alloys (at. %) were prepared by vacuum induction melting. The alloys were directionally re-melted in a resistance furnace working with use of the Bridgman?s method. The re-melted samples were transversally and longitudinally cut and microstructure, porosity and microhardness were investigated on the sections. The structure of both alloys was oriented after directional solidification. It consisted of coarse grains of Ni3Al phase, in which the eutectic was distributed. The eutectic was a complex of lamellas of Ni3Al and Ni7Zr2 phases. Porosity of re-melted samples was smaller than porosity of castings. Furthermore, porosity of samples increased with rate of directional solidification. There was no significant difference between the values of microhardness for transversal and longitudinal sections of both alloys. Their average values were approximately 270 HV 0.05. That has confirmed that the largest microhardness had the eutectic with zirconium.
