On the preparation of intermetallic alloys via mechanical alloying in hydrogen

  • Original language description

Mechanical alloying of nickel aluminide was studied. Mixture of Ni and Al elemental powder with composition Ni75Al25 were milled in ball planetary mill in atmosphere of argon and hydrogen gases under two different conditions. Mechanical alloying of two alloys Ni3Al-I and Ni3Al-II of the same stoichiometric compositions were performed with different alloying time of 120 and 144 hours, milling speed of 200 and 220 r.p.m. and ball-to-powder ratios of 20:1 and 6:1, respectively. Milled samples were examinedat different milling stages using a laser particle sizer, hydrogen determinator, scanning electron microscopy and EDS microanalysis to determine statistic distribution of powder particle size, hydrogen content and phase composition. Mean size after different period of milling was dependent on the stage of mechanical alloying and ranged from 103 to 97 m for Ni3Al-I and from 135 to 96 m for Ni3Al-II alloys. EDS microanalysis of the samples after different milling periods revealed that int
