    Interfacial tension at the interface of a system of molten oxide and molten steel.

    The presented paper is focused on the study of interfacial tension between selected oxide and metal phase. Experimental research of interfacial tension was performed in horizontal resistive graphite Tamman furnace using original method of measuring. Thismethod consists in fixing both liquid phases in horizontal position using the mandrel made of tungsten wire in corundum cover. In this work the influence of carbon content in steel on interfacial tension was studied. For this purpose the steel with 0.411 wt. % of carbon and steel with 2.64 wt. % of carbon were used. Because of wide variety of oxide systems used in the industry, characteristic system of casting powder was chosen for this study. This system contains dominant components, which are SiO2, CaO, Al2O3 and MgO, and also a range of attendant mixtures as for example Fe2O3, TiO2 and Na2O.
