Study of heat capacities and carbides of alloys based on Fe-C-Cr in low temperature area
Original language description
Two alloys based on Fe-C-Cr were studied. Alloy A contained carbon of 0.410 wt. % and chromium of 1.083 wt. %. Alloy B contained carbon of 0.430 wt. % and chromium of 4.980 wt. %. Heat capacities and carbides were studied in a low temperature region. The heat capacities were obtained using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The Setaram MHTC (Multi High Temperature Calorimeter) 96 with a 3D DSC sensor was used for experiments with the use of DSC method. Measurements were done in inert atmosphere of pure argon by a heating and cooling rate of 5°C min-1. The experimental data were compared and discussed with the calculation results using SW Thermo Calc with the use of the TCFE8 (Thermo-Calc Fe-based alloys) database. On the DSC, there were observed heat capacities of M7C3, M23C6 carbides and a Sigma phase formation, which was supported by calculation of presence of the mentioned phases as a function of temperature in SW Thermo-Calc.
