Determination of heat capacities of alloys based on Fe-C-Cr in low temperature area
Original language description
Two alloys based on Fe-C-Cr were studied. Alloy A contained carbon of 0:410 wt% and chromium of 1:083 wt%. Alloy B contained carbon of 0:430 wt% and chromium of 4:980 wt%. Heat capacities and carbides were studied in a low temperature region. The heat capacities were obtained using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The Setaram MHTC (Multi High-Temperature Calorimeter) 96 with a 3D DSC sensor was used for experiments with the use of DSC method. Measurements were done in inert atmosphere of pure argon by a heating and cooling rate of 5 C/min. The experimental data were compared and discussed with the calculation results using SW Thermo Calc with the use of the TCFE8 (Thermo-Calc Fe-based alloys) database. On the DSC, there were observed heat capacities of M7C3 and M23C6 carbides, which was supported by the semiquantitative microanalysis using the JEOL 6490 LV line microscope and calculation of presence of the mentioned phases as a function of temperature in SW Thermo-Calc.
