Biomethane production with implementation of a thin film composite water-swollen polyamide membrane

  • Original language description

In this study, a water-swollen spiral-wound membrane filter was used to separate CH4 from two typesof feed streams: a synthetic binary mixture of CO2 and CH4 and raw agro-biogas. At a pressure of 3 barof the synthetic biogas, the CH4 content increased from 52 vol% in the feed stream to 98 vol% in theretentate stream. The use of two modules aligned in parallel increased the recovery ratio by 8.5%compared to single filter operation, which is attributed to the doubled biogas retention time achievedby bisecting the feed stream. The water-swollen membrane technology developed in this study provedto be effective in producing high-quality biomethane and desulfurizing the feed biogas. The retentatestreams had a biomethane concentration of >95 vol% pure CH4 and a low concentration of H2S and H2at around 10 ppmv for both.Poster at the conference SSCHI 2023.
