New information technologies stimulate the growth of electronic forms of payment and create new substitutes for traditional forms of money - cash. These forms of money have the potential to replace central bank currency, thereby affecting the money supply. Therefore, e-money could make the implementation of monetary policy more complicated. E-money could come from anywhere in the world and be sent anywhere in the world. Thus, e-money systems may offer instantaneous transfer of funds over a network that,in effect, is not subject to any jurisdictional restrictions. The abuse of e-money by money launderers is a significant threat for the world economy.

Czech description
Nové informační technologie vedly k rozvoji elektronických plateb a vytvořily substituty pro tradiční formu peněz - hotovost. Elektronické peníze možná nahradí hotovostní peníze vydávané centrální bankou, a proto mohou v budoucnosti zkomplikovat realizaci monetární politiky. El. penězi můžeme posílat kamkoli ve světě. Systémy el. peněz nabízí možnosti transferů peněz prostřednictvím sítě, která nepodléhá soudním restrikcím. Zneužívání el. peněz za účelem praní špinavých peněz je pro světovou ekomiku významnou hrozbou.
