The paper deals with an alternative multicriteria approach to quantitative evaluation of regional development in the context of EU cohesion policy. The aim of the paper is to define and compare the level of socio-economic development of NUTS 2 regions inVisegrad Four countries in the year 2001 and 2010 by utilizing of the selected multicriteria decision-making methods (MCDM). The results of selected MCDM methods confirm that NUTS 2 regions with capital cities (Praha, Bratislavský kraj, Mazowieckie, Közép- Magyarország) and Czech region Střední Čechy have had significant and different socio-economic positions from the other regions in V4 in year 2001 and 2010. Using of quantitative multicriteria approach can lead to more precise evaluation of the socioeconomic development and development potential.
