Soft skills and their importance on the Czech labour market

  • Original language description

Soft skills, such as communication, independence, cooperation, leadership, problem solving and others, embody significant productive potential applicable in all jobs and economic sectors. This is reflected by higher employability, wages and other labour market outcomes of individuals more equipped with these skills. Therefore, the development of soft skills is a highly discussed topic in the Czech Republic, especially in connection with expected changes in skills needs related to the implementation of Industry 4.0. This book thus aims at evaluating the benefits and feasibility of systematic development of soft skills in Czech schools by answering three fundamental questions: Does soft skills development increase an individual's productivity on the labour market? What are the requirements on soft skills in different occupational groups and economic sectors? Are there any tools for assessment and development of soft skills? This book is aimed at decision makers in education, especially but not limited to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, regional authorities and headmasters, but it provides useful information also for human resources development at individual and company levels.
