Anaerobic digestion of insect biomass
Original language description
Contribution in the proceedings. The worldwide development of "insect industry" significantly accelerated in recent years. Due to their nutritional value and low space requirements the insects have considerable potential as a food source, for the production of biodiesel etc. Literature states that its larvae contain high amount of protein (approx. 45 %), lipids (40 %) and unsaturated fatty acids (comparable to rape oil). These properties are an excellent prerequisite for their use in biogas production through anaerobic digestion. The paper presents basic results about used mealworm larvae in anaerobic digestion.
