Biochemical methane potential test of Hermetia illucens
Original language description
The paper was published during the conference.Anaerobic digestion has gained popularity as an effective way to treat organic materials generated in agricultural, municipal and industrial processes, while producing low-carbon energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The range of organic substrates suitable for anaerobic production of biogas and bio-fertilizer is limited. The use of insect biomass for this purpose can be a feasible future solution, as this biomass is characterized by high matter content and high lipids and protein content. The insects can be bred while being fed by difficult to degrade waste biomass or by common food biowaste. The paper presents basic results about used Hermetia illucens larvae in anaerobic digestion. The aim of the paper is to verify the possibility of using this larvae for anaerobic digestion using the biochemical methane potential test.
