Vermiculite: structural properties and examples of the use
Original language description
Vermiculite, as one of the popular clay minerals used for nanotechnology applications, is described in matter of structure, properties, modifications and applications. Vermiculite?s approx. 1nm thick silicate layers are loaded with negative charge that compensates cations of interlayer space. Exchanging the interlayer cations, the modification of vermiculite is possible using various techniques. Vermiculite particles delaminated, exfoliated or other way disintegrated can be obtained. The particles can be utilized in several ways, as carrier of functional nanoparticle, as high ratio filler for nanocomposite, as natural and non-harmful component of composite. Great advantage of vermiculite is ecologically friendly character and economical accessibility.
