Electrodeposition of Calcium Phosphate on EV31 Magnesium Alloy

  • Original language description

This paper deals with evaluation of dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) thin layer formation on the surface of magnesium alloy EV31 by electrodeposition. The influence of the dicalcium phosphate dihydrate layer on the electrochemical characteristics of EV31 magnesium alloy was evaluated by potentiodynamic measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopyin 0.1 M NaCl solution at a temperature of 22 +/- 1 degrees C. Basic electrochemical characteristics corrosion potential and corrosion current density were evaluated after 5 minutes of stabilization before potentiodynamic tests. Polarization resistance after longer immersion times up to 168 hours were obtained by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The obtained results were analyzed by the Tafel-extrapolation method (potentiodynamic curves) and equivalent circuit method (Nyquist diagrams). We found that covered surface has more than 30 times higher polarization resistance than uncovered surface and longer stability under aggressive chloride media.
