  • Original language description

Introduction: Newer imaging modalities, such as 18F-FDG PET/CT, 99mTc-MIBI scintigraphy and MRI has been recently introduced to assess the activity and extent of disease in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS). Aim: To compare the impact of these imaging techniques in evaluation MM and MGUS patients. Material and Methods: Ninety-five consecutive patients with MM and MGUS were enrolled in the study (17 newly diagnosed and 43 relapsed patients with symptomaticMM, 16 patients with asymptomatic MM in stage I without necessity of treatment, and 19 patients with MGUS). Diagnosis and staging were made according to standard criteria. All patients were without chemotherapy or radiotherapy and underwent whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT, whole-body and SPECT 99mTc-MIBI scintigraphy, and whole-body MRI (only 15 newly diagnosed patients) within a maximum interval of 15 days. The scans were classified as normal (N), diffuse (D)
