Individual differences in the effectiveness of intracoronary high-dose bone marrow cell transplantation: capability of sestamibi SPECT/FDG PET imaging to select patients with maximum benefit from thepary
Original language description
Aim: We reported that autologous intracoronary mononuclear bone marrow cell (BMC) transplantation improves regional myocardial function of the infarcted wall in a dose-dependent manner (Am Heart J 2006;152:975.e9-15.). However, no previous study explained the cause of interindividual differences in the effectiveness of the cell therapy. The aim of this study was to analyse the impact of different levels of tracer uptake on improvements of left ventricular (LV) function in patients treated by high-dose cell therapy. Methods: Thirty-seven patients with irreversible damage after their first acute myocardial infarction, as confirmed by dobutamine echocardiography and sestamibi SPECT/FDG PET, underwent BMC transplantation (1 x 108 cells), whereas 36 similarpatients were randomly integrated into a control group. Results: In 16 BMCtreated patients with very low sestamibi uptake at less than 30% of maximum in the infarcted area, the mean left-ventricular ejection fraction
