The extraction process and LC-MS method The LC-MS for determination of isoquinoline alkaloids in biological matrix were elaborated. The effect of seeds on rat health status was evaluated in a 25 days experiment involving consumption of feed containing 0.5 % (w/w), 1 % or 1 % solar irradiated seeds of A. mexicana or dihydrosanguinarine equal to its amount in 1 % seeds in diet. The following parameters were monitored: body and organ weights; hematology markers in blood; safety clinical laboratory and oxidative stress markers in plasma and erythrocytes, and histological examination of small intestine and liver.
