Original language description
With interest we have read the article in the section, The same patient in various European countries in the last issue of the EGM journal, titled Use of gastrostomies in usual practice in the Czech Republic, Germany and Turkey (S. S¸ahin, E. Topinkova´ , R. Wirth, T. Richter, C. Smoliner, A.J. Cruz-Jentoft) which analyses the varying use of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies (PEG) in geriatric care in the Czech Republic, Germany and Turkey. In modern nursing, it is taken for granted that patients expect high-quality and standardised health services and that healthcare providers ensure appropriate quality of medical and nursing services. For the operation of healthcare organisation, it is therefore essential to use system-level tools that ensure constant improvement of quality and efficacy of care. Standards of gastrostomy use may serve as a good example for these activities.
