FUNCTIONAL TRAINING OF WALKING WITH THE USE OF AUGMENTED REALITY FOR PATIENTS RECOVERING FROM A STROKE

  • Original language description

Walking trainers are frequently interconnected with a system enabling visual feedback. Visual biofeedback provides a further sensory input for supplementing and utilising the natural sensory information and improving postural balance. This form of therapy is supplemented also by therapeutic modules for walking training in virtual and augmented reality. Virtual reality (VR) is a form of interactive simulation realised by using computer hardware and software and a certain means for connecting the user to the virtual environment, in order to provide the user with an experience similar to real life. A task designed in VR may be adapted to cognitive and motor skills, and enables a progressive increase in the level of difficulty, speed, precision and the specific targets of the patient. Augmented reality (AR) is a type of VR which provides users with further information about an actually observed situation.
