Preoperative sentinel lymph node detection in malignant melanoma, malignant melanoma vulvar carcinoma, breast carcinoma and uterine cervical cancer is associated with administration of the radiopharmaceutical around a tumor or subcutaneously near a tumor and is followed by series of scintigrams. After the detection of sufficient saturation of the radiopharmaceutical in the sentinel lymph node, a physician marks its location in two orthogonal projections with an indelible ink. These marks are only approximate, a surgeon uses a gamma probe to locate the sentinel lymph node during a surgery. Extirpation precisely localized node, guarantes an exact biopsy and keeps patients from unpleasant postoperative complications.
