Xu Shen a počátky čínské gramatologie.

The reign of the Han Dynasty is undoubtedly one of the most important periods in the history of Chinese linguistics. Besides historical lexicology, another innovative field of Chinese linguistics is grammatology, which can be represented by Xu Shen?s (?54-?125) monograph Shuo wen jie zi (The Explanation of Meaning of Primary Characters and Structure Analysis of Secondary Characters). On the example of 9 353 characters Xu Shen demonstrated the basic terms and phenomena of Chinese grammatology, i.e. liu shu ? six categories of writing, bushou ? system of 540 determinatives, and diachrony in graphics of Chinese characters as illustrated on the comparison between minor (Chin. xiaozhuan) and official scripts (Chin. lishu). The main aim of Xu Shen?s work isto systematise the whole complex of Chinese writing system. The paper is searching for the reasons of this unique book?s creation in the end of 1st century A.D.
