The Alleged Conversion of the Olomouc Rabbi Moses in 1425: Contribution to the Host Desecration Legends in Mediaeval Literature
Original language description
The paper focuses on a Latin charter that represents a unique source about the alleged conversion of rabbi Moses from Olomouc and the desecration of Eucharist by the local Jewish community in 1425. The text is religiously educative and perhaps served asa deed of the foundation of the local Corpus Christi Chapel. The story of the bleeding Host can also be understood as polemics against heresy and controversy with Hussitism. The bleeding Host served as a symbol of Catholic attitude to the theological definition of Eucharist. These aspects are important to understand this medieval Latin charter correctly.
