The purpose of the paper is to identify and interpret transformations of a life-situation of Silesians and their stock of knowledge. The research is based on a phenomenological theory of life-situation of man, which consists of its biography (personal history), social position and a history of the region. These three components take part in formation of systems of relevance and of an interpretative capacity embeddet in stock of knowledge, and consequently in assessment and interpretation, and assessmentand interpretation of key events and choices both in the past and in the present and in the future. The research will combine qualitative and quantitative methods: questionnaire finding out a social position, biographical narrations identifying respondents` life-courses (key events, key life-choices, assessment of a life-course and projecting a life-course) and "a course" of Silesia (key events).
