How to deal with Muslims? Raymond Lull and Ignatius of Loyola

  • Original language description

Raymond Lull of the late Middle Ages and Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, had both a tense relationship to Muslims. Lull wanted to convert them, and Ignatius wanted to go to Jerusalem to convert or fight them. Both narrate in their autobiographies episodes of hostile encounters with a Muslim, and both resolved to find a peaceful solution. The answer to the title question, then, is: don't kill them!
