Original language description
This paper is based on the author's experience in the international automotive industry and his researching and teaching subjects in Czech Republic and Germany. It deals with the differences between basic, applied and industrial research, defining usefulsteps of a generalized research process, and giving 6+1 specific characteristics of industrial research. The objectives of the paper are 1) clarifying what scientific research is, 2) explaining useful research steps for scientific work, 3) identifying six typical characteristics of industrial research, and 4) new research challenges and questions.
