The paper deals with the history of architecture at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th Century, and presents a hypothesis of comparability of the Finnish and Czech national movements in the arts. By comparing the iconic buildings of the key architects of that times, the Railway station in Helsinki (1904-1919) by the Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen and the Museum in Hradec Králové (1905-1913) by the Czech architect Jan Kotěra, a transition between Art Nouveau and Modernism is observed.
