An Application of the Menzerath-Altmann law to Chinese Translations of the Poem Raven
Original language description
The article yields results of the linguistic quantitative analyses aimed to different Chinese translations of the poem The Raven by means of the Menzerath-Altmann law. The analyses are follow-ups to two earlier researches which were focused on the application of the Menzerath-Altmann law to different samples. The aim of the first research conducted by Martina Benešová was to investigate not only the original version of the poem The Raven, but also its translation into German and Czech language (c.f. Benešová, 2012). The second research performed by Lenka Matoušková and Tereza Motalová surveyed contemporary Chinese texts of different stylistic styles, (c.f. Motalová et al, 2013) and (c.f. Motalová, Matoušková, 2014). To sum up, the results attained by these experiments are going to supplement the above mentioned researches.
