The Late Arrival of 'The Avant-Garde' in the Nordic Countries. Some Notes on 'Avant-Garde' as a Critical Fame
Original language description
It seems to be a rather late or recent discovery that artistic developments in the first half of the 20th century framed presently as 'avant-garde', or 'historical avant-garde', had a far stronger presence and impact in the Nordic countries than previously historiographic suggested. The question rises, however, whether it is indeed a late discovery, or rather a late arrival of 'avant-garde' as an interpretative frame in arts criticism in the Nordic countries, that produced the narrative of a 'Nordic avant-garde', as it can be observed today in historiography.
