The Platonic Framework of Valeriano Magni’s Philosophy
Original language description
Features of the philosophy of the seventeenth century Capuchin friar are analyzed in the article. They demonstrate that he was a follower of Plato and that Platonism constitutes the background of his thought, Although Magni attempts to construct his philosophy independently of any authority, it is actually based on the Platonic distinction between the realm of existing things and the realm of eternal ideas. This dualism is a result of the method of introspection, which Magni together with the metaphysics of light borrowed from the Augustinian and Medieval Platonic tradition of St. Bonaventure in particular.
