The Ambivalent Satirist in Jane Austen´s Northanger Abbey
Original language description
In Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen, a born satirist, concocted a tale full of popular Gothic clichés to satirize silly novels and their gullible, mostly female, readership. However, Austen also incirporates a fine ironic twist in the novel which turns the tables on those who perceive the book as a mere conventional satire on Gothic novels and female ignorance.
