Narrative Levels in The Documents in the Case (1930) by Dorothy L. Sayers and Robert Eustace

  • Original language description

The paper provides a detailed analysis of a joint project of two detective fiction writers of the Golden Age era, Dorothy L. Sayers and Robert Eustace. As an epistolary novel, the Documents in the Case contains a very intricate relations system between the individual narrative levels. The narratological analysis deals with several distinct narrative levels that create a multi-layered detective narrative. The results thus suggest that the work might be regarded as a literary experiment that took place in the early stages of Golden Age detective fiction.
