Original language description
The monograph is dealing with the topic of collections and collecting in early modern era. The history of collecting is one of the most interesting fields of art history, offering opportunities for interdisciplinary research. Research on the origins and development of art collections, on how works were acquired through agents and presented to the public, and, last but not least, on the collector integrates many disciplines. In addition to art history, these include history, sociology, psychology, the history of art market and diplomatic relations. The study of the provenance of works of art is nowadays a much sought-after discipline not only in the field of scientific research but also in the contemporary art market.
