Anglophone Literature in the Czech Republic with Justin Quinn

Original language description

Why do we teach anglophone literature in the Czech Republic? How have we done it in the past? And how might we do it in the future? This lecture focusses on BA and MA programs at both faculties of arts and faculties of education in the Czech Republic, offering ways to introduce curriculum innovation in response to the new status of English as a global lingua franca, a zone in which people with different first languages meet and communicate. What are the implications of this new paradigm for literature and how we teach it? I’ll describe the new BA and MA programs at my home institution, where we’ve replaced historical survey courses in literature with syllabi that foreground intercultural communication. We still teach literature (lots of it!), but we structure the teaching differently and we ask that literature serve a different function.
